Your July Communications Planning Calendar

June 26, 2025

By: Emma Fairbanks-Lee

July invites us to reflect, recharge, and enjoy all that summer has to offer.

As you plan your external and internal communications calendar for the month ahead, you can savor the opportunity to celebrate National Ice Cream Month (or National Ice Cream Day on July 20). These events offer great excuses for treating your team to some cool treats or creating engagement on social media.

Beyond the summer fun, July also marks Disability Pride Month, which honors the history, achievements, and experiences of people with disabilities and promotes disability culture and visibility. The month caps off with National Disability Independence Day (July 26), which commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

See below for more of what to expect this July:

July 2 - National Wildland Firefighter Day

National Wildland Firefighter Day honors the dedication and sacrifices of wildland firefighters — an often under-recognized group who have taken on greater importance in the wake of several high-profile wildfires impacting communities across the U.S.

Consider messaging that thanks wildland firefighters in your community and promotes fire safety best practices. You may also share ways individuals can help communities impacted by wildfires.

July 4 - Independence Day

On July 4, we commemorate the anniversary of the United States declaring independence from Great Britain and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Beyond the barbeques and fireworks, Independence Day can serve as a hook for messaging that highlights how your organization is working to achieve equality for all.

July 5 - National Hop-A-Park Day

National Hop-A-Park Day encourages people to get outside, connect with nature, and explore and enjoy their local parks. On this day, your team can share info about their favorite local spots or offer advice on how community members can contribute to preserving their local parks.

July 10 - Global Energy Independence Day

Global Energy Independence Day and World Conservation Day (July 28) spotlight the importance of using alternative energy sources and protecting our planet’s natural resources and ecosystems. Each offers an opportunity to promote your organization's environmental and sustainability initiatives or provide advice on how to use alternative energy sources.

July 12 - Malala Day

June 12 honors Malala Yousafzai, the courageous education advocate and Nobel Prize laureate who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating for girls’ education.

On this day we recognize Malala’s bravery and tireless advocacy for girls’ education even in the face of violence and threats.

It also serves as a reminder of the millions of children worldwide who are still denied their right to education. Take some time on this day to promote education initiatives and resources in your community.

July 15 - World Youth Skills Day

World Youth Skills Day highlights the importance of equipping young people with the skills and knowledge for employment, and encourages investment in youth skills development to create a sustainable and prosperous future.

For World Youth Skills Day, consider sharing information about youth development programs offered or supported by your organization or your partners.

July 15 - Social Media Giving Day

On Social Media Giving Day we use the power of social media to promote charitable giving.

This is the perfect opportunity to prepare posts that tell your organization’s, or organizations you support’s, story and share how individuals can donate to these causes.

July 18 - Nelson Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela Day honors the life and legacy of anti-apartheid activist and politician Nelson Mandela.

To honor Mandela’s 67 years of public service, individuals are encouraged to take 67 minutes of their time to help others.

Consider sharing volunteer opportunities in your community — or use the day to celebrate his commitment to human rights and building a more just and equitable world.

July 25 - National Hire-a-Veteran Day

National Hire-a-Veteran Day recognizes the valuable skills and experience veterans bring to the workforce and to support their transition into civilian careers. This is a great chance to celebrate the contributions of veterans who work at your organization and share resources for veterans in your community.

July 27 - National Parents’ Day

National Parents’ Day looks to honor parents and their role in raising the next generation. Take some time to share resources in your community geared towards parents, uplift stories of parents and families impacted by your organization, or have staff share personal reflections about the influence of their parents.

July 28 - Buffalo Soldiers Day

Buffalo Soldiers Day commemorates the formation of the first all-Black regiments in the U.S. Army in 1866. These soldiers played a significant part in the westward expansion of the United States, the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and both World Wars. They also served as some of the first park rangers in national parks like Yosemite and Sequoia.

You can learn more about this history here.

July 31 - National Intern Day

On the final day of July we celebrate the contributions of interns. Take a moment to recognize any interns at your organization and highlight their accomplishments.
