Get Out The Vote Campaign

The Problem

Leaders at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation understand that voter participation is at the core of a thriving democracy.

Yet much like many communities across the nation, voter engagement lags behind in some segments of the population, due to a range of factors including lack of access, ease, and education about the power of each individual’s vote.

Compounding those challenges has been the decline of local news media, government pullback of voter-related programs and rampant misinformation around elections.

The Solution

A Get Out the Vote campaign takes direct aim at these challenges, providing opportunity to reach every corner of the community, including those long neglected by politicians and media.

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation partnered with Turn Two during two election cycles to execute a multimedia, nonpartisan, and bilingual Get Out The Vote campaign that relied on print, digital and social media content to engage and inform voters.

“If philanthropy doesn’t step up into this space no one else will,” said Chinedum Nnodum, the Foundation’s director of community strategies.

Results

The most recent campaign was conducted in the fall of 2023 – an off-year election that did not feature any statewide or national races. The campaign exceeded expectations:

  • Click-through rates for digital ads and content were six times the national average.

  • Engagement with social media ads exceeded the national average by three and a half times.

  • The campaign caught the attention of Inside Philanthropy which published a full-length feature on the effort.
